Here is a piece of my work that I did at the beginning of the year, also known as my "below work"
This piece of writing was focused on the story Harrison Bergeron and Summer in a Day. This assignment taught me how to identify the mood of a piece of work by focusing on sensory details. This piece stressed me because I wasn't as comfortable with writing than I am now. To get rid of my stress I had my friend read over it and tell me what else I needed to improve. I do remember how easily I found the quotes and identified the mood of the stories. I needed to improve on not rambling because in a few parts of the paragraphs I repeated the same things over and over. I also needed to improve on putting my thoughts into words. But, I did very well on this assignment and am still very proud of it.
Here is a piece of my work that I did at the middle of the year, also known as my "getting better work"
This was my first essay I had to write that semester. The essay was focused on the novel Fahrenheit 451 and I chose the prompt that had to do with the characters that influenced Montag. This assignment taught me how write a formal essay and make it sound and look professional. I was very stressed over this because I wasn't sure what I wanted to write about until the day before the introduction was due. To me, the introduction is the hardest because you have to know what you are writing about, and also you need to find all of the information you need but to help myself overcome this stress I called my ever so smart friend named Sami and talked with her about what I could write about. Having someone to help me through the process was very helping and got rid of my stress. As a writer I need to connect my evidence better to my overall claim. Overall I am proud of this because I got a good grade and still enjoy reading it.
Here is a piece of my work that I did at the end of the year, also know as my "wow work"
This was an in class essay I did on the play Antigone. This essay taught me how to plan out an essay efficiently and also how to connect a characters actions to a tragic hero e.t.c.. This essay was the easiest of all of the writing I had to do this semester. I need to improve on phrasing statements and also making things more interesting to read and make the reader say "wow". Overall I am very happy with this essay because I scored well and also because it wasn't stressful to me which shows I am becoming more comfortable with writing.
This is my final reflection on my writing over the entire semester.
This past semester I have become more comfortable with writing formal pieces and have been able to see that writing isn't as bad as I had thought it was. I think I became a better writer because of how much of writing I did this semester. My teacher would assign us to do a paragraph over the weekend and over time I would become more and more comfortable with writing and putting my thoughts into words. I believe my writing is getting better as I keep on writing. On the other side I know that one of my weaknesses in writing is putting my thoughts into words. I find it helpful to have someone to talk things through and help me put my thoughts into words. I also have noticed I am not confident with my writing and find myself asking friends to read over my paragraphs. I think that this upcoming semester I am going to try and become more confident with my writing. I am very proud of how well I have done with my writing, and am beyond happy with the grades I received for my writing. I do believe that I can become better this next semester and I am eager to write more and more until it is natural to me. My writing has improved in many different ways, which are obvious to me. One example is that I don't stress over doing loop paragraphs now, and they seem natural to do. This semester I have grown as a writer and I am looking forward to becoming even better this next semester.
